Seiler & City hit yet another one 'out of the park!'

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and the City knocked yet another special event 'out of the park' yesterday with the 50th Anniversary celebration of 'Where the Boys Are!', and we just have to say this: "Congrats Mr. Mayor, Commissioners, City staff and employees on yet ANOTHER GREAT EVENT yesterday...both for the celebration...and for another needed economic boost for our city!"

If you weren't there (although I think I saw just about everyone I've known in Fort Lauderdale!) just try to envision this:  the beach was packed full of sunbathing bodies just like in the old days, businesses were jamming up and down A1A as the crowds milled along the beachwalk, and everywhere you turned to look, there were thousands of people of every age smiling, laughing and just enjoying the day and the festivities.  Sand castles that defied your wildest imagination...dozens of classic cars from yesteryear on display and rekindling their glory days of parking along the beach...bands, music, food and drinks for every taste...all those things that have made Fort Lauderdale Beach famous over the years...and of course, thousands of people taking it all in and bringing the beach alive once again!

To top things off as the day turned to dusk, the timeless Connie Francis was honored with the first plaque of honor on the new Fort Lauderdale 'Walk of Fame' on beachside corner of Las Olas Blvd. and A1A...fittingly located directly across the streert from that most venerable Fort Lauderdale instiution, The Elbo Room.  With the huge crowd watching, Connie followed up with a classic performance of 'Where the Boys Are' and finished up with a moving singalong of 'God Bless America', which set the stage perfectly for the icing on the cake, the showing of the classic 'Where the Boys Are!' on the beach!  It was quite a sight to see and to be a part of the crowd spread out on their beach chairs and blankets to watch the film that made Fort Lauderdale famous being shown on a huge screen under the stars right on the very beach where the movie took place 50 years ago!

Yes, Saturday's 50th Anniversary celebration of 'Where the Boys Are' was much more than just a party celebrating the movie...it was an event born of vision and a statement of what Fort Lauderdale is all about...a special place that we're all proud to call 'home!'

Great seeing you last night as always. I have done nothing but talk about this superb event. The city employees made us volunteers feel no less than VIP's.

I got to judge the sand castle and was so amazed what these kids (for the most part) came up with. We even had a working sand volcano.

With a nice ocean breeze sitting on the beach to watch a movie was a fantastic end to a spectacular event.

  2. I didn't get down there, but where was the Sun-Sentinel? Did I miss something? I didn't see anything in today's "Local" section? Same as the St. Patrick's Day coverage=none.
